Sundance Adds ‘New Media’ Projects

Sundance has expanded its vaunted filmmaker labs program to include projects that focus on the convergence of film and new media technologies. (Think Matthew Barney.) The first New Frontier Story Lab will start Oct. 23 at Sundance’s headquarters in the mountains outside Salt Lake City. Keri Putnam, executive director of the Sundance Institute, called the intersection of film and new media “a new and important field where we felt independent voices needed nurturing and resources.” The inaugural New Frontier workshop, underwritten by Coca-Cola and McCann, will include 11 artists working on projects like “18 Days in Egypt,” an interactive documentary project that will tell the story of the recent Egyptian revolution through a collage of videos, photos, tweets and other electronic media.
